18-spline OEM replacement output shaft for 3/S cars that have a 2nd generation transmission. This OEM replacement transfer case output shafts is made out of 300M material, which is the toughest alloy in the 4340-steel family. Finishing the shaft includes an oil quench and draw process that creates a far superior strength than OEM shafts - over 200,000 PSI tensile strength. For 5-speed transmission cars built in the second half of 1992 through 1993 and for 6-speed transmission cars built in the second half of 1992 through 1999.
*Notes*
5 or 6 speed transmission?
In general, the 5-speed transmission was from 1991 - 1993. The 6-speed transmission was from 1994 - 1999.
How many splines?
On the 1992 cars, you may have to take off the cover to the transfer case and count the splines, you should not have to take out the whole transfer case to count the splines.
Most of the time, (as long as it isn't worn off) there is a serial number on the bottom of the transfer case. If the serial number has an "M" (Mxxxxxxx), it has 18-splines and a 5-speed transmission. If the serial number has an "N" (Nxxxxxxx), it has 25-splines and a 5-speed transmission. If the serial number has a "P" (Pxxxxxxx), it is a 6-speed transmission.
